Original Peloton Bikes Are Recalled Due to a Fall Hazard

The model can be identified by finding the PL-01 number on the label posted on the inside front fork (near the flywheel); by the red “P” logo followed by the white-colored Peloton brand name on the bike’s frame; and by its display screen, which doesn’t swivel.

The bikes were sold at Peloton and Dick’s Sporting Goods stores throughout the U.S., as well as online at Onepeloton.com, Amazon, and Dickssportinggoods, from January 2018 through May 2023 for about $1,400.

If you own a PL-01, you should immediately stop using it and contact Peloton. The company is offering a free seat-post replacement that can be self-installed.

“This is a massive recall, and people have gotten hurt. It’s critical for anyone with an affected Peloton bike to immediately sign up for a free replacement seat post,” says William Wallace, CR’s associate director of safety policy. “We urge Peloton to make this process work smoothly for people, and to invest heavily in outreach so that as many people participate in the recall as possible.”

When reached for comment, a Peloton spokesperson pointed to the company’s statement, which says that Peloton “worked cooperatively with [the CPSC] to identify today’s approved remedy.”
