So is that a problem?
To find out, we bought six criss cross chairs and handed them to CR’s in-house ergonomics experts to review. We tested models from Elevens, Marsail, Pipersong, Pukami, and Vivo. Each one had drawbacks, according to our testing team.
Paul Ritchey, a doctor of public health, performed the testing with fellow certified ergonomist Dana Keester. The verdict? The chairs do offer certain benefits, allowing you to routinely shift positions, but they also require certain trade-offs. Bottom line: Do not expect a criss cross chair to fully replace a traditional office chair.
If you want a place to briefly sit and meditate, journal, or just chill for a bit, one of the three models below can serve you well. But if you’re looking for a chair for remote work or homework, a place to perch while you’re on your computer, you’re better off with a model that better adjusts to fit your body.
