While a lot of the dishwashers from the most reliable brands tend to be expensive, cost doesn’t automatically determine reliability. “Our surveys found that paying more for a dishwasher doesn’t necessarily guarantee it’s going to be a much more reliable machine,” says Adam Troy, who oversees CR’s dishwasher brand reliability survey.
Our predicted reliability ratings are based on data about nearly 70,000 dishwashers spread across 28 brands. All of the machines in our survey were purchased by CR members between 2014 and 2024. They include models from popular names such as Bosch and Samsung, lower-cost options like Ikea, and high-end companies such as Miele and Thermador. We combed through the responses for any reports of performance problems or breakdowns to predict how reliably a dishwasher from a given brand will hold up in its first five years of service.
CR members can read on for a summary of the brands that we expect to be the most reliable, as well as a warning about the five least reliable brands in our surveys. Members can also check out our full dishwasher ratings of more than 120 models, which are based on extensive washing, drying, noise, and energy-use tests, not to mention our reliability survey results.
