Hyundai Sonata and Kia K5 Sedans Recalled to Fix Fire Risk

Vehicles Recalled

• Hyundai Sonata sedans manufactured between Oct. 22, 2019, and Oct. 27, 2023.

• Kia K5 sedans manufactured between March 27, 2020, and Jan. 23, 2024.

Only vehicles with 1.6-liter gas direct injection engines are included in the recall.

The problem: A faulty check valve could let air into the fuel tank, causing it to expand and contact hot exhaust components. If this happens, the tank could develop a leak and cause a fire.

The fix: Dealerships will replace the faulty check valve, inspect the fuel tank and replace it if necessary, and provide a software update, free of charge.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may call Hyundai at 855-371-9460 or Kia at 800-333-4542.
